The Ogre and the Other Man

His snoring is the soundtrack

of the aftermath of her latest rebuff

She needs a battery operated kind of love

Because his touch has grown too rough

It leaves her wanting

to be wanted

Although her spirit is undaunted

She still wonders if she is just haunted

by the ghosts of who they used to be

When they used to be free

Long before they were three

So while her family is sleeping

She sets her mind to wondering

About a man she met so many yesterdays

Still in her head,so he is never far away

This man who crossed a street just to say:

"I need to know your name"

It brought a smile to her face

Joy the ogre snoring next to her could never quite erase

Her heart could barely keep pace

with the mechanical friend she kept in place

of The prince who was displaced

Once the ruler of the kingdom of her heart

Now just an ogre she can't embrace

Though his pungent body odor

was not the reason why their love turned so mediocre

Her thoughts turn to the man she met

while off to work one day

Who stopped her just to say

I need to know your name

She told him with a smile

then walked with him for a while

When she complimented his style

He asked for her number

And she began to wonder

Why he hadn't asked about her ring

And why her desire for him not to felt so troubling

She held it up for him to see

That she was anything but free

Then she watched the smile on his face die so easily

Now every night passes like the turning of a century
